Things to do with kids in Wimbledon
Wimbledon is a genuinely good family neighbourhood that does not get the credit it deserves outside of two weeks in June. Deen City Farm is one of the best city farms in London with real pony rides for young kids, Eddie Catz is a clean, well-run soft play with an excellent cafe, and the Polka Theatre is a dedicated children's venue with consistently strong programming. Wimbledon Common itself adds a huge, free outdoor resource for the whole family.
What makes this area work well is the combination of quality indoor and outdoor options that genuinely suit different ages and weather. On a good day, Deen City Farm and a Wimbledon Common walk is a complete free morning. On a rainy day, Eddie Catz or a Polka Theatre show will save your sanity. The WWT Wetland Centre in Barnes is a 15-minute drive for when you want something a bit different and more nature-focused.
Free to enter, with goats, sheep, pigs, cows, and short pony rides for 2-7 year olds that are genuinely brilliant value and run regularly. Buy a bag of animal feed at the entrance for a pound and the goats will make your kid's entire day.
Bright, clean soft play with separate baby and toddler areas, and a genuinely good cafe where you can eat while watching the kids. Known for a friendly atmosphere that is noticeably less chaotic than some of the larger commercial soft play centres.
A theatre that exists entirely for children, which you feel from the moment you walk in: the scale, the colours, the whole atmosphere is designed for small people. The programming is consistently excellent and the free playground outside means you can make an afternoon of it.
A genuine nature reserve in Zone 2, a short bus or drive from Wimbledon. Kids who are into animals get a lot from the otter enclosure and the pond-dipping sessions; kids who just want to run get the trails and the playground. Worth the entrance fee.
